Volunteer: Hot Station Sous Chef-AM

Assist the Hunger Relief Kitchen Coordinators on the hot side of the Hunger Relief Kitchen by cooking in 35-gallon tilt skillets, running ovens, and using the stove. Work together with the Hunger Relief chefs to create meals for our partner agencies. A Hot Station Sous Chef will:

prepare food in a variety of ways in a tilt skillet read recipes and gather spices and herbs, as needed use creative cooking skills to help with seasoning and flavors of tilt manage pans in the ovens clean the tilts so they are ready for the next shift

It’s a fun and creative culinary challenge to produce delicious and nutritious meals using the wonderful, rescued food donated to Second Helpings.

There’s a lot of scooping, wrapping, and labeling that gets the job done. This is a vital volunteer task that is great for you if you enjoy seeing the immediate output of your hard work and/or if you’d prefer to avoid knives and heat.

Pan wrapping is an essential part of Second Helpings' daily tasks. Approximately 100 pans of food are sent out by Second Helpings each weekday. This position involves:

wrapping pans that weigh approximately 12 pounds (but up to 16 pounds) labeling each pan with the dish name, weight, agency it is going to, and date it is going out placing wrapped pans on speed racks and storing them in the outgoing cooler
